About Us
Our Vision and Principles
Our Mission is to create a beautiful and inspiring space that encourages sustainable practices and facilitates sharing, collaboration and creativity.
Sustainable practices that we wish to integrate and include are local food cultivation, zero waste off the grid practices, nature based restorative work, yoga and meditation along with conscious cooking, NVC and Restorative circles.. We will reinforce sharing and collaboration through proven practices of gift based economics and exchange while forming synergy and productivity of diverse parties via the utilization of Coworking and maker space areas. To add a dimension of creativity, imagination and zest we will also place emphasis on art based healing activities such as Music, visual arts, martial arts, dance and theater.

Our Views on
Social
We believe that Community and intimacy are a result of joint creativity rather than joint consumption. We therefore emphasize collaboration and play in addition to individual expression and self reliance.
- We also believe that inspiration can come from cultural consumption but would like to emphasis creativity as an offset to its unfair emphasis within our culture.
- We like assist people to find their inner highs and aid people through any processes of de-addiction all aimed towards supporting an individual's journey. We do however encourage open discussions and information exchange as relating to these matters.
- In order to maximize efficiency and group solidarity while minimizing friction we ask that people respect the timings of others. Please be on time, be punctual.

-We aspire to enhance gift based exchanges within the community and thereby discourage monetary transactions amongst its members. A weekly gift circle will be held in order to facilitate this process.
- We seek to establish unity in diversity and believe that a highly diverse system results in solidarity and resilience. We thereby give preference to situations that lead to the most diverse outcome.
- Roots seeks to explore the space between edges, the space of boundary dissolution, the space that thrives. East and West, Work and play, Young and old, these are distinctions that do not exist at roots. We seek to drive forth the impossible task of squaring the circle
- Our collective extends beyond the physical premises that is roots. We therefore see the neighborhood, city, country and globe as a larger collaborative ecology that we are embedded within.

- Being an ecologically sensitive community we hope to establish a zero waste environment. We therefore highly discourage the use of plastics and non biodegradables.
- Any waste that we do create will be resolved through innovative methods of up-cycling and recycling from seed to harvest, cooking to compost generation, we seek to facilitate peoples engagement in the full life cycle of their food. Through this process we hope to instill and reinforce a sense of place and connection.
- Healthy food is part and parcel of a holistic lifestyle. We will be following a dietary protocol that fits within this framework and is subject to evolve according to the latest wisdom and findings. (see cookbook)

- All suggestions from volunteers will be forwarded towards a decision making panel
- Decisions, for now, will ultimately pass through the filter of the owner and will try to employ participatory decision making processes where possible. We ultimately see ourselves as an experiment in transition and will be actively taking suggestions that help orient us toward more equitable decision making.
- Self governance will be dynamically changing and will be determined through the lens of what is “deemed” holistic. A decision log will be updated accordingly.
- We aspire to use restorative circles as a form of conflict resolution and self regulation

- Walking, Cycling and public transportation will be highly emphasized to and from roots and we will be sharing in these assets.
- We see a four tier benefit to this arrangement – reduction of ecological footprint, physical exercise, increased sense of well being and enhanced connection to surroundings.
