Roots Commune

People

Members form a foundation of prosumers who direct, curate and administer the space while being supported by a steering committee. Since members are strongly screened, we expect the services provided, which are sometimes accessible to the public, to be of a standard representative of our goals.

Process

Via a user friendly interface encouraging self reliance, while also encouraging inter-dependance through acts of giftivism and pay it forward culture.

These acts will cumulatively help in the blossoming of the space, which will be an ever changing social sculpture.

Possibilities

We have scope for executing classes, projects, workshops and events all within the framework of our five focus areas. We have many spaces that help facilitate these possiblities. May a thousand flowers bloom!

Inside Roots

Outdoor

Reception- for greeting and orienting people, registrations. Schedule & layout of all activites at roots, posters, contribution box etc.

Amphitheatre - Multipurpose-events, classes, workshops

Cafe - Kitchen in back of building can be utilized as a future cafe

Garden - For vegetables and other flora and fauna while also serving as a space to retreat or gather for small meetings.

Ground Floor

Detox Zone - digital device free silent space where you can unwind, meditate or read

Studio- Space in shed can be used for audio/visual recordings and inputting audio/visual data from stage.

Store- Space in shed can also be used as a store and/or backstage area

Halls - Halls utilized for events, classes and workshops. 2 halls with a capacity of 25 people each. one hall doubles up as a library.

1st Floor

Coworking Space - Member access to our exclusive work space which includes desks, chairs and other office accessories. Also a space that facilitates maker elements such as 3d printing and IOT’s.

Conference Room- suited for team meetings and conferences but can be a general workspace when its not utilized in such a capacity

1st floor can be accessible to public during certain events, classes and workshops

2nd Floor

A makerspace for tinkering and creating/building new things. Accessible to members. Equipped with tools that facilitate the act of making .

The exact layout and focus will be determined by the type of members involved, but an overall emphasis will be placed on arts and crafts.

A stay space w/ attached bathroom for staff or guests

2nd floor can be accessible to public during certain events, classes and workshops.

Terrace

Visual Arts Womb - Visual arts studio stocked with paints and easels

Outdoor Hall - Gathering area and common space for all members to work, tinker and collaborate. Accessible to general public during certain workshops, events and classes.

Stay space - Additional stay space for staff or guests

What's this all about?

Rootscommune; established 2013 is technically not a commune. In our search for finding a new name for what had been roots the best alternative we could find was rootscommune without compromising on the original name and still retaining the intended spirit of the space.

We target a diverse group of members seeking a platform for social change wherein they can play an active role in determining the output of the space. They believe in and support efforts towards localization and are dedicated to one or many of the following focus areas: Sustainable Living, Holistic Lifestyle, Alternative Education, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Independent Arts & Music.
